
Albies, Mader Claim Weekly Honors

PEARL, MS -- Infielder Ozzie Albies and LHP Michael Mader have been named Mississippi Farm Bureau Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, August 28.
In seven games during the week, Albies posted a .333 batting average with two doubles, two triples and three RBI. Albies' two-run, two-out triple in the ninth at Chattanooga Sunday secured the Braves a 5-4 victory. The Braves No. 6 prospect and also ranks among Baseball America's Top 100 at No. 63. In 75 games with the Double-A Braves this season, Albies is hitting .323 with 19 doubles, seven triples, two homers and 28 RBI. Tagged the "Best Infield Arm" among Braves minor leaguers, the Curacao native started the season at Mississippi but went to Triple-A Gwinnett at the end of April. In 56 contests, Albies was hitting .248 with 16 extra-base hits and 20 RBI before rejoining the M-Braves June 30. The shortstop was signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2013.
Mader, 22, made one start for the M-Braves this week, giving up one earned run on just two hits in seven frames against the Shuckers. He's made three starts for the M-Braves and has an 0-2 record despite a 0.90 ERA. The southpaw was acquired by the Braves along with SS Anfernee Seymour from the Marlins in exchange for LHP Hunter Cervenka on August 6, 2016. Mader was the Marlins' No. 24 prospect at the time. Mader was 7-6 with a 3.50 ERA in 22 games (21 starts) at High-A Jupiter. Last season at Low-A Greensboro, Mader went 6-12 with a 4.73 ERA in 27 starts. He was originally acquired by Miami as the 105th overall pick in the 2014 draft out of Chipola College.
