Saugerties Stallions News Release

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - A pair of infield singles in the ninth catapulted the Saugerties Stallions (6-3) to a 6-5 walk-off win over the Albany Dutchmen (3-4) on Friday night at Cantine Field. Albert Jennings (Washington State) was the hero with the winning hit.

After a quiet first couple of innings to the game, The Stallions struck first in the bottom of the third thanks to back-to-back doubles by Gene Napolitano (Marist) and Colin Mackle (Marist). Jarrett Brown (Georgia Southern) followed that up with a double of his own to make the score 2-0.

Saugerties then added another run in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a deep home run by JP Tighe (Georgia Southern) to make it 3-0. Albany then responded in the top of the fifth with three runs of its own to tie it up at three. A homerun by Adam Zebrowski (St. John Fisher) and Kyle Vinci (Princeton) highlighted the inning for the Dutchmen.

Both teams traded jabs in the seventh, with Albany adding one run and Saugerties tacking on two in the bottom half to take a 5-4 lead heading into the eighth. In the top of the eighth, singles by George Rainer (RPI) and Will Stroud (Azusa Pacific) helped Albany tie the game at five in the inning.

After Albany went down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth, Saugerties came to the plate looking to walk it off and avoid extra innings. Tighe led off with a broken-bat infield single, which brought in Chase Carroll (Albany) into the game to face Kip Fougerouse (Indiana).

An errant pick-off throw by Carroll moved Tighe to third with no outs. After a Fougerouse walk and Andrew Wilhite (Minnesota) strikeout, Jennings knocked in the winning run on a ball bobbled by the Albany first basemen Vinci to give the Stallions a 6-5 win.

Aaron Cohn (Farleigh Dickinson) earned the win for Saugerties. Cohn pitched the ninth and gave up no hits, runs and struck out two in the inning. The loss went to JT Larson (Eastern Florida State) who gave up a leadoff baserunner, and the eventual winning run, in the ninth.

Albany returns home tomorrow to take on Mohawk Valley at 5 and the Stallions return to action tomorrow night at home against Glens Falls. First pitch is at 7:05 and you can stream it live on Facebook.
