Albany Dutchmen Drop Home Opener After Error Plagued Sixth Inning

ALBANY- The Albany Dutchmen (1-1) were defeated by the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs (2-0) in their inaugural game at Bob Bellizzi Field on Friday night, 5-3. It was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings with both starting pitchers matching zeros on the board.

Justin Brantley, a Siena College sophomore, went five plus strong innings for the Dutchmen. He recorded four strikeouts, two hits and two runs, stranding seven runners between the second and fifth inning.

The Dutchmen suffered an error plagued inning in the sixth, giving up four runs. A singled throwing error by Albany was responsible for three of the four runs scored.

The Dutchmen came roaring back in the seventh closing the gap to 4-3. Catcher Dain McNabb, who went 2-2, scorched an RBI single in the inning followed by a two-run RBI single by Ryan Welke. The DiamondDawgs however held onto their lead, adding a run in the ninth and leaving two Dutchmen on the corners to end the game.

Frank Holbrook got the win for the DiamondDawgs, while Adam Breuer recorded the save.
