Albany Devils News Release
- TODAY'S STORYLINES
So Far So Good: There are still many questions to be answered surrounding this season's team. One of them is who will emerge as leaders on a club that has a mix of veterans and first and second-year players. The Devils have yet to name their leadership group, but captain Rod Pelley likes what he's seen so far from some of the newer players.
"I like the guys [the organization] brought in who have played around the league and been leaders in other places," Pelley said. "You see their character from day one. They're good people, they have character and they're just going to fit right."
Wedgewood's Focus Is Winning: One day after clearing waivers and being assigned to Albany, Scott Wedgewood joined the team for practice at Knickerbacker Ice Arena. Despite an injury-plagued 2015-16, Wedgewood still managed to shine. He went 14-3-3 with a 1.55 goals-against average, a .933 save percentage and two shutouts with Albany and 2-1-1 with a 1.25 goals-against average, a .957 save percentage and one shutout with New Jersey. Now in Albany, Wedgewood is only focused on helping the AHL club win.
"The last couple days played in my head, thinking about what might happen and what might not," Wedgewood said. "It's passed now. I know where I am, I know what I'm doing and it kind of takes a load off. So now it's just come in, get closer with these guys, practice hard and get ready for the games this weekend."
Events Planned For Opening Night: The Devils announced today that they will host two events to celebrate the start of the 2016-17 season this weekend. The team will host an Opening Night viewing party Friday and a Fan Fest before the Home Opener Saturday. Both events are free of charge.
