Albaladejo Joins Bridgeport Pitching Staff

(Bridgeport, Conn.) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of former New York Yankees pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo.

"Jonathan has extensive big league experience and we're thrilled to have him join us in Bridgeport," says Bluefish Manager Luis Rodriguez. "He will have a huge impact on our team this season."

Jonathan Albaladejo comes to Bridgeport for his sixteenth season of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. He began the 2016 season with Reynosa of the Mexican League, where he appeared in four games. Last year, the pitcher appeared in 56 games for Mexico City of the Mexican League, striking out 50 batters in 47.2 innings. The 33-year-old made his professional debut in 2001 after being selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 19th round of the MLB draft. He spent six seasons with the Pirates organization, before signing with the Washington Nationals in 2007 where he made his Major League debut. In 2008, he was signed by the New York Yankees and spent parts of the next three campaigns with their big league club. He also appeared with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012. In 66 career Major League games, Albaladejo owns a 6-3 record with a 4.34 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 76.2 innings. In 356 career minor league appearances, Jonathan owns a 52-36 record with a 3.28 ERA and 687 strikeouts in 776.2 innings of work.
