Alabama Vipers News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Alabama Vipers latest addition is a big one.
The Vipers have been assigned former All-Arena defensive tackle Aaron McConnell, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound Arena Football League veteran who led the Colorado Crush with nine sacks and totaled 21.5 tackles in 2008.
"Aaron is a fabulous player and he'll give us a commanding presence up front,'' Alabama coach Dean Cokinos said. "I coached him earlier in his career in Nashville and he is a terrific leader and community-minded individual. He's another great addition to this franchise."
The Oklahoma City native attended camp with the Tennessee Titans before landing with the AFL's Nashville Kats in 2005, where he was an All-Rookie selection with 22 tackles and 4 ½ sacks. McConnell totaled 25 tackles and 4 ½ sacks during the '06 and '07 seasons before the Crush picked him up in the dispersal draft after the Kats ceased operations.
McConnell is the only player to have earned All-American and All-Mid America honors in each of his four seasons at Pittsburg State (Kan.), where he recorded over 300 tackles and had 22 sacks.
