Alabama Hammers News Release

The Alabama Hammers play outside of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) this Saturday, April 18, versus the Saginaw Sting, which play in the American Indoor Football League (AIFL). The 7:00 p.m. kickoff will be held at the Von Braun Center.

The Hammers (2-1) come off a wild victory over Nashville (55-52) last weekend to face a virtual unknown opponent from the standpoint the Sting (1-2) does not play in the PIFL. Last week, the Sting earned its first victory of the season with an unbelievable 74-6 victory over the Cleveland Saints.

"Saginaw changed coaches after its two opening losses and responded with a sound victory and they also had a change at quarterback picking up a veteran signal caller who knows how to play the game," said Scott Sharp head coach of the Hammers. "They have players who can make plays. We'll have to pressure the quarterback for us to be successful."

The Hammers biggest obstacle is knowing which of their quarterbacks will see action along with containing who many regard as the best player in the AIFL in wide receiver and defensive back C.J. Tarver. The Hammers, according to Sharp, "Played well last week, but there is certainly room for improvement. We have to improve each week if we want to contend for the PIFL Championship."

Saturday is also KBM First Responders Night with the first 1,000 attending receiving a Hammers Rally Towel. In addition, there will be plenty of locally performed music outside the confines of the arena of the VBC as a pregame party will be held as the excitement builds for the matchup between two different leagues of arena football.
