Alabama Hammers News Release

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Alabama Hammers rallied from a 21-point deficit but finally fell 56-49 to the Louisianna Swashbucklers on Saturday night before over 4,000 fans at the Lake Charles Civic Center in their Professional Indoor Football League season opener.

The Swashbucklers led it 42-21 early in the third quarter, but the Hammers rallied behind rookie quarterback Arvell Nelson and his band of receivers. Nelson ran for a short touchdown, hit former UNA star Mico McSwain for a 15-yard score and connected with McSwain again to make it a 49-42 game with just under 10 minutes to play.

Nelson's 1-yard dive and Jamie Whitworth's extra point tied the game at 49-all with just over 2:20 to play, but Louisiana pulled out the victory on ex-Ole Miss running back Kendrick Perry's late 1-yard dive and intercepted Nelson from there to seal the victory.

The Hammers will host an open house Tuesday evening in the Von Braun Center's South Hall from 5-7 p.m. And season ticket holders can pick up their season ticket packages and meet the coaching staff, player, and Hammerette dance team.

Alabama opens its PIFL home slate next Saturday night against the Columbus Lions at the Von Braun Center's Propst Arena. Kickoff is set for 7:05 at the first 4,000 fans will receive a magnetic schedule compliments of Huntsville Hospital and TOC.
