Alabama Hammers News Release
While leading the defensive unit of the Alabama Hammers to an impressive performance of holding the Georgia Fire to 21-points, Brandon Sharpe has been named the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) Defensive Player of the Week.
"The honor is well deserved," said Hammers' head coach Dean Cokinos of Sharpe's being tabbed the defensive gem in last week's PIFL play. "Since he got here in week four, he has worked extremely hard and he has been a big part of our defensive success."
Sharpe had three sacks versus the Fire and was a huge factor in the game in which the Hammers shut down the Fire offense, which has averaged 48-points per game. As a unit, the Hammers picked up six sacks and two interceptions for arguably the strongest defensive performance of the season. The Hammers won the game 39-21 for its third consecutive victory moving the Hammers into a tie for second place in the American Division.
The defending PIFL champion Hammers play on the road for this week's action traveling to Nashville to tangle with the first place Venom. The battle is scheduled for Monday, June 2, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium.
