PIFL Names Players of the Week
Published on May 27, 2014 under Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release
NASHVILLE, TN (May 27, 2014) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) announces that Richmond Raiders QB Phil Konopka, Alabama Hammers LB Brandon Sharpe, and Trenton Freedom DB Christian Wise are the Week 9 Players of the Week.
It's been well over a month and half since he was traded, but Phil Konopka picked up his first win as the starting quarterback for the Richmond Raiders (2-5) in Saturday's 55-33 win over the Stampede. It was arguable Konopka's best start of the season completing 21 of 30 passes for 215 yards and 4 TD's as well as adding another score from the ground helping him earn the Week 9 Offensive Player of the Week. The win ended Richmond's first three-game losing streak in three years and despite being at the bottom of the PIFL's National Conference they are just two games behind the second playoff spot.
Thanks to his three sack performance on Saturday, Alabama Hammers (3-4) LB Brandon Sharpe earned the Week 9 Zoombang Defensive Player of the Week award leading his club to their third straight win. Since starting out 0-4, the Hammers have scratched and chipped away at the division and are now in a three-way tie for second place. Unlike their previous two wins, Saturday's 39-21 victory over the Fire was more about Alabama's defense. As a unit they picked up six sacks as well as two interceptions, arguably their strongest defensive performance of the season.

For the third time this season a kick returner earns the Vidswap.com Special Teams Player of the Week nod. KR/DB Christian Wise of the Freedom (6-2) picks up the Week 9 selection for his 40-yard missed field goal return for a touchdown in the 4th quarter of Trenton's 55-42 win over Lehigh Valley. With their victory and just four regular season games remaining, Trenton owns the PIFL top record and will enjoy the next week off before returning to action on June 6th for a conference showdown with the Stampede in Harrisburg.
