Alabama Franchise Introduces Name and Logo

Pelham, AL - The newest member of the World Hockey Association 2 will be known as the Alabama Slammers. The Team's name, logo, and colors were unveiled in a ceremony held at the Riverchase Galleria. The Slammers name was chosen out of over 1,000 entries during its "Name the Team" contest sponsored by WJOX 690.

Adrenalin Design Group, Inc. was responsible for the development of the team' identity. "With such a recognizable name, we wanted to develop a mark that captured the energy and excitement of the word 'Slammers' and help define the image of the hockey club," said Dan Price, President and Creative Director, "The colors are strong and help reflect the values, culture and history of the state and the greater-Birmingham community."

The Alabama Slammers logo features a fierce looking Steel Worker slamming down and scrambling the letters of the name "Slammers" with a steel hammer. The Steel Worker has a burgundy shirt on with a white "A" on his hard hat for Alabama. The letters spelling out the name "Slammers" are white with a blue outline.

"We couldn't be happier with the Team's new look and identity," said Taylor Hall, Alabama Slammers President. Aside from the endless marketing opportunities this name provides, our team will be built to reflect the hard working and aggressive nature the name implies. We want our fans to know that this is their team and that we're going to be playing hard to represent them each and every night."

The winning suggestion of the team's name came from Brian Smith of Alabaster.. Brian's entry was chosen from a drawing of over 10 finalists that suggested the name Slammers. As the final winner of the team's "Name the Team" contest, Brian will receive a FREE pair of season tickets for the team's inaugural season and an autographed team jersey that will be presented to him during the team's opening night ceremonies. The other finalist will receive a FREE pair of tickets to the team's opening night game.

Today's announcement kick's off a major partnership between the Team and the Riverchase Galleria that will provide fans with a year round opportunity to purchase team merchandise and tickets at the team's new Kiosk that will be unveiled in the coming weeks inside the Riverchase Galleria.

The new logo will be posted on the team's official web site, www.slammershockey.com.

The Slammers begin play in the WHA2 this October at the Pelham Civic Complex located next to the Oak Mountain Amphitheater.
