AHL team in Iowa slashes 2008-09 ticket prices

Published on July 1, 2008 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

DES MOINES, IA - (June 27, 2008) - In his first official act in office, team President Steve Nitzel announced today that the AHL team in Des Moines, Iowa will be lowering prices on the majority of season ticket plans, as well, as individual tickets for the upcoming 2008-09 season. "We want our loyal and potential new fans in Iowa to look at these new prices and say ‘wow!' said Nitzel. "We believe that the decreasing ticket prices will allow our fans to attend our games on a regular basis and continue their fantastic support as we enter into a new era of professional hockey in Des Moines."

Nitzel's move is groundbreaking in the fact that on average half of the seats in the Wells Fargo Arena are going to be 50% off their price last season. "Typically, teams slash prices in the worst seat locations to drive fans where historically no one wants to sit. Not us!" said Nitzel. "We are lowering over 1,000 of our best locations by more than 20%. More than 5,000 seats in the lower bowl of the arena will be half the price they were last season." An example that Nitzel is referring to is a typical seat along the first row along the glass (considered by most the best seat in the house) cost $2,050 for 40 home games last season. However, for the 2008-09 season that same seat for all 40 home games is just $1,000.
