
AFL Hands out OL, WR and Assistant Coach Honors

TULSA - The Arena Football League announced today that Kansas City Command OL RICHARD RANGLIN (6-3, 315, Central Connecticut State University) has been named 2011 Spalding Offensive Lineman of the Year. Since Week 2 of the AFL season, Ranglin has been one of the best and most reliable linemen in the League, suiting up 17 consecutive weeks and becoming a major contributor to Kansas City's eighth-ranked pass offense. "It feels amazing," Ranglin said of the award. "Sometimes you're working so hard and you wonder if anyone is noticing. It feels great to get recognized."
Other players in contention for Spalding Offensive Lineman of the Year included: Tulsa Talons OL LORENZO BRELAND; Jacksonville Sharks OL RANDY DEGG; and Utah Blaze OL JASON BOONE.
Meanwhile, Utah Blaze OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR MATT SAUK has been named the 2011 NFL Network Assistant Coach of the Year, the League office announced today.
Sauk completed his first season as Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach with the Blaze after spending the 2010 season with the ArenaBowl Champion Spokane Shock. Under his tutelage, the Blaze became the League's number one passing offense, totaling 5,422-yards and 128 touchdowns on the season. The Blaze offense also ranked third in scoring (60.1 points per game), touchdowns scored (159), and total offense (5,727 yards). His latest protégé, Tommy Grady, threw for 4,368 yards and 107 touchdowns in his first season with the Blaze. Grady finished third in the League in passing average per game (291.2), fourth in efficiency (119.1), and sixth in completion percentage (65.9).
The runner-up for the NFL Network Assistant Coach of the Year award is Chicago Rush OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR SHERDRICK BONNER.
In addition to the awards given to Ranglin and Sauk, Dallas Vigilante WR ANTHONY "TIGER" JONES was named Cutters Wide Receiver of the Year. Jones put together a career season, setting new Dallas franchise records in points (258), receiving touchdowns (42), and receiving yards (2,232). He put together nine 100-yard receiving performances on the year and led the League in receiving yards, receptions and yards per game.
Other candidates for the Cutters Wide Receiver of the Year award included: Arizona Rattlers WR ROD WINDSOR; Georgia Force WR MAURICE PURIFY; Philadelphia Soul WR DONOVAN MORGAN; and Iowa Barnstormers WR JESSE SCHMIDT.
