af2 week three Friday night matchups

April 12, 2007 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CINCINNATI JUNGLE KATS (0-1) AT LOUISVILLE FIRE (0-2)

FRIDAY, APRIL 13, 2007 - Freedom Hall (15,646) 5:30 P.M. ET

Two new Midwest Division rivals square off in Louisville on Friday as Cincinnati makes the short trip of just over 100 miles to take on the Fire at Freedom Hall. Both teams are in search of their first win of the season. The Jungle Kats come into Louisville fresh off a bye in Week 2. Cincinnati's lone result to date was a disappointing home opening, 81-21, loss to Quad City on March 31. Since then, Cincinnati has acquired a new key to their offense, former Alabama A&M QB and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers 2006 backup, KELVIN ROBINSON. Last season, Robinson appeared in eight games with the Pioneers, completing 16-of-35 passes for 239 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. They've also picked up DL ABDUL WIGGINS, a veteran lineman who most recently spent time with the Manchester Wolves. His addition should help bolster the team's frontline. The Fire have gotten off to a slow start so far in 2007 and hope to change their fortunes in Week 3. Louisville's most recent result was a 77-53 loss at South Georgia last Saturday. During last week's game, QB MATT SAUK made his return to the team after spending the 2006 season in the AFL with Philadelphia and Grand Rapids. This year he was with the Rampage for the first few weeks of the 2007 season before being waived. He looked sharp against the Wildcats last week in a losing effort, completing 31-of-44 passes for 363 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. Last time Sauk played in the af2 it was 2005 when he led Louisville to an ArenaCup berth and set single season league records for passing yards and touchdowns. Rookie WR TIGER JONES leads the team with 19 catches for 220 yards and three scores. Cincinnati needs to start fast and play smart or else they could be engulfed by the Fire.

MANCHESTER WOLVES (0-1) AT GREEN BAY BLIZZARD (0-1)

FRIDAY, APRIL 13, 2007 - Resch Center (7,695) 8:30 P.M. ET

* Broadcast via B2 Networks

The Wolves travel to Green Bay to take on the Blizzard in a Friday night af2 tilt. Both teams are seeking their first win of 2007 after enduring losses in Week 1. Last week each team regrouped with a bye. Manchester's first result was a 50-36 road loss at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. After a rocky first half, Wolves starter BRIAN Zbydniewski settle down in the second against the Pioneers, but by that time the team's deficit was too great. He finished with 327 yards passing, four touchdowns and two interceptions. If Zbydniewski stumbles again early, newly-acquired QB RYAN PORTER, formerly of the Cincinnati Jungle Kats, might get the call. WR ARI CONFESOR, in his second af2 season, had nine catches for 184 yards and four TDs in Week 1. Veteran DB ALLISTAIR SEBASTIEN (10 tackles in WK1) anchors the team's secondary. Green Bay is looking to get on track this week while entertaining their home fans for the first time in 2007. The Blizzard lost in Week 1 at Fort Wayne, 36-28. QB RYAN HAWK struggled to get the Blizzard going early against the Fusion and finished with only 151 passing yards on 15 completions. He also tossed two touchdowns with one interception. WR DANNY DONALDSON caught seven passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. This is an important early season game for both teams. Whoever gets off quick and takes care of the ball will likely come out on top.

His top target so far has been WR KRIS PETERS (20 catches, 296 yards, 7 TDs). Peters leads the league in scoring with 44 points through two games. FB/LB JERMAINE PETTY (4 rush TDs, 2.0 sacks) and DB KEVIN ADAMS (team-high 17.5 tackles, 2 INTs) have keyed the Steamwheelers' defensive efforts.
