June 21, 2007 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
wilkes-barre scranton pioneers (10-0) AT QUAD CITY STEAMWHEELERS (7-4)
FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 2007 - The MARK of the Quad Cities (9,437) 7:30 P.M. ET
* Broadcast via B2 Networks
The unbeaten and No.1-ranked Pioneers travel to the Midwest this week to take on the Quad City Steamwheelers. The Pioneers and Steamwheelers have met five times previously. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton currently owns a 4-1 series edge. The Pioneers enter this week's contest after defeating Alabama, 77-62, in Week 12. The strong Pioneers offense led them to victory. QB RYAN VENA, who leads the league in pass efficiency and ranks fifth in total offense, completed 27-of-34 passing for 360 yards and 10 touchdowns against the Steeldogs and scored the only rushing touchdown of the game. WR/DB LARRY KENDRICK caught 12 passes for 152 yards and five touchdowns, WR BUCHIE IBEH recorded 10 catches for 118 yards and three touchdowns, and WR MARCUS FURMAN caught three passes for 60 yards and two scores. Defensively, the Pioneers were led by DB CHRIS ROYAL with 8.5 tackles, one tackle for loss, one fumble recovery and one interception. Royal leads the team in total tackles (69.5) and ranks fourth in the league. DB PETE MCBRIDE also played a factor against Alabama with 6.0 total tackles and one interception. The Steamwheelers (No. 11 in Coaches Poll) enter Week 13 after seeing their four-game win streak snapped by Mahoning Valley last Saturday, 63-34. QB J.J. RATERINK struggled against the Thunder, throwing four interceptions with just three touchdowns. Despite his performance, overall Raterink has been steady throughout much of the year. He is tied for third in the af2 in completion percentage (64.9) and eighth in passer rating (110.3). WR KRIS PETERS had seven grabs for 88 yards and two touchdowns last week. WR/LB JACK WALKER JR., who leads the team in receiving yards, caught seven passes for 81 yards and one score. Defensively, the Steamwheelers are led by DB KEVIN ADAMS, who recorded 5.0 tackles last week. Adams leads the team in total tackles (61.5) and interceptions (7). DB MALIK JACKSON and OL/DL SHONN BELL also contributed last week with 5.5 tackles each. Quad City will be without head coach Sean Ponder for the next three games due to an on-field incident against the Thunder. Leading the team in his place will be defensive coordinator TROY BILADEAU. So, the Steamwheelers have two tough opponents this week, adversity and the top-ranked Pioneers. Quad City, however, is undefeated at home at 4-0 and has a solid team from top to bottom. This should be a highly-competitive battle from the opening kickoff. The Steamwheelers will need their best effort to threaten the perfect Pioneers.

FORT WAYNE FUSION (4-7) AT GREEN BAY BLIZZARD (5-5)
FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 2007 - Resch Center (7,695) 8:30 P.M. ET
* Broadcast via B2 Networks
Fort Wayne travels north this week to battle the Green Bay Blizzard in this Midwest Division matchup. The Fusion and Blizzard have met once before earlier this season. The Fusion won the first affair, 36-28, on March 31. Fort Wayne enters Week 13 after defeating the Louisville Fire, 52-34, on the road last week. Rookie QB BLAYNE BAGGETT, starting his second contest, completed 14-of-22 passes for 258 yards and five touchdowns, connecting with three different receivers. WR CESARE MANNING connected with Baggett six times for 129 yards and four touchdowns, and WR/DB MARIO PRATCHER recorded six receptions for 108 yards and one touchdown. WR/LB JERMAINE JACKSON, who leads the team in receiving (73-780; 11 TDs), caught two passes for 21 yards last week. Defensively, the Fusion were by LB DEREK SIMMONS (7.5 tackles) and WR/DB DEREK BROWN (7.0 tackles). Brown currently leads the team in total tackles (62.5) and ranks seventh overall in the league. Green Bay (No. 13 in Coaches Poll) enters this week after a 43-26 road loss to Tulsa in Week 12. The Blizzard effort on the offensive end was led by QB GINO GUIDUGLI, who completed 20-of-47 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns. WR NATE HARDWICK (9-80), WR KERRY WRIGHT (4-45) and WR SCOTT BURNOSKI (3-27) each scored a touchdown in last week's contest. K BOB FORSTROM added to the Green Bay effort with two field goals in the first half. WR/KR DANNY DONALDSON is the team's top receiver on the season with 538 receiving yards and 11 TDs. Overall, the Blizzard offense has struggled with consistency all year and as a result, points have been at a premium. The team ranks 27th out of 30 teams in scoring, averaging 34.5 points per game. Green Bay, however, has been able to have success this year thanks to an amazing defense. The unit is ranked first in total defense (210.2 yards per game) and third in scoring defense (36.0 ppg). DB RONNIE AMADI, who leads the team in interceptions (5), led the team last week with 4.5 tackles. DB ROB MAY and DB DONNIE AMADI each recorded 3.5 tackles as well. OL/DL JASON HARDEE leads the squad with 6.5 sacks. Green Bay has been unbeatable at home in 2007 with a 5-0 mark. If Baggett continues his solid play for Fort Wayne, the Fusion should provide a stern test this week for the Blizzard.
