August 16, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Spokane wide receiver/linebacker CHARLES FREDERICK, Green Bay offensive specialist BRENT HOLMES, and Florida wide receiver/defensive back BRENT BURNSIDE have been named the U.S. Army Ironman, Schutt Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for the Semifinals of the 2006 ArenaCup Playoffs. In addition to these three awards, the recipient of the Cutters Catch of the Week Award goes to Memphis wide receiver/defensive back ADRIAN BURNETTE.

U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Frederick (5-11, 185, Washington), in his first af2 season, showed off his all-around skills for Spokane in the team's, 50-47, come-from-behind home win against Bakersfield in a National Conference semifinal affair. The former Washington Husky made his presence felt all over the field for the Shock, making plays on offense, defense and special teams. On offense, he caught five passes for 88 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner with just :02 seconds left to play. In addition to his three receiving scores, Frederick got the game off to an explosive start by taking the opening kick back 57 yards for a touchdown. He was also a factor on defense with 1.5 total tackles, including one for loss, helping Spokane to its first playoff win in team history. This is the third Ironman of the Week Award of Frederick's career. He was also honored by the league for Weeks 9 and 10 this season.

SCHUTT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Holmes (5-11, 165, Texas A&M-Kingsville) was a major player in Green Bay's 67-50 home win against the defending ArenaCup Champion Memphis Xplorers in an American Conference semifinal showdown. The second-year standout caught 10 passes for 161 yards (both game-highs) and two touchdowns. Holmes also amassed 104 yards on three kick returns, including a 58-yard return touchdown in the third quarter. He finished with 265 all-purpose yards. This is the first Offensive Player of the Week Award of Holmes' career.

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Burnside (6-1, 175, Missouri Western), in his seventh season, was an impact player on defense for Florida as the won a thrilling, 40-39, American Conference semifinal matchup over Manchester. Burnside, normally more active on offense, was forced into heavy duty on defense against the Wolves due to an early injury to DS Quincy Sorrell. The Missouri Western alum responded with two interceptions, four tackles and one pass breakup. His second interception came with just :31 seconds left to play. With Florida on the defensive and clinging to a one-point lead, Burnside stepped in front of Manchester receiver Wendell Williams to spoil the Wolves' last chance effort. The af2 veteran also played well on offense with six catches for 60 yards and one score. This is the first ADT Defensive Player of the Week Award of Burnside's career.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Memphis wide receiver/defensive back Adrian Burnette (5-11, 195, Tulane), who is in his third af2 season, is the Semifinal Round recipient of the Cutters Catch of the Week Award, a weekly honor that has emerged this year to highlight the player who makes the best catch of the week. Burnette's grab was a leaping, 39-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter from a scrambling Brian Jones. He caught three passes in all for 56 yards. Burnette's efforts weren't enough, however, as the Xplorers saw their season come to an end with a 67-50 road loss to Green Bay. Others receiving consideration this week included Florida's Brent Burnside, Green Bay's Brent Holmes, Tulsa's Andre Forde and Spokane's Antwone Savage.
