HOUSTON --- Casey Wellman had a goal and an assist and Chay Genoway and Joel Broda each scored as the Houston Aeros beat the Texas Stars 3-1 Thursday at Toyota Center.
Justin Fontaine had two assists and Matt Hackett made 26 saves for Houston, who improved to 22-11-3-9 and extended their second place lead in the AHL's West Division to three points over Abbotsford.
Genoway gave the Aeros a 2-1 lead with a power play goal at 8:39 in the third period after Wellman tied the score at 1-1 with his 14th goal at 14:53 in the second period.
Broda made it 3-1 on an empty net goal at 19:46 in the third.
Ryan Garbutt put the Stars up 1-0 at 11:50 in the first period with his 12th goal of the season.
The Aeros continue their three-game homestand against the Lake Erie Monsters Saturday at 7:35 p.m. at Toyota Center.

Casey Wellman is tied for the team lead with 14 goals with Jon DiSalvatore... Wellman has points in four of the last five games (3-4=7)... Wellman had his sixth multi-point game of the season and second in the last four games... Wellman's 4-on-4 goal was the third for the Aeros this season and second in as many games... Chay Genoway scored his first goal since Dec. 16 versus Texas... Justin Fontaine had his fifth two-point game of the season... Fontaine has points in five of the last six games (2-5=7)... Joel Broda scored his tenth goal of the season and second in three games... Cody Almond returned to the lineup after missing the last seven games and had a shot to go along with being involved in two fights.
