Aeros Sign Veteran Center Sylvain Cloutier
August 23, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Aeros President and General Manager announced today that Center Sylvain Cloutier has been signed to an American Hockey League Contract for the 2002-03 season.
"Sylvain is a character player who provides strong leadership in the locker room and on the ice. He's the type of player that other teams don't like to play against and soon dislike due to his competitive nature," said Barr.
Cloutier, 28, spent the past three seasons with the Albany River Rats (AHL) where he totaled 37 goals and 73 assists for 110 points in 205 games and added 329 penalty minutes. He was also the team captain for the 2001-02 season. The ten-year veteran has spent most of his career in the AHL, however he played the majority of the 1998-99 season with Indianapolis of the International Hockey League where he tallied a career-high 21 goals and 54 points. He also played in seven National Hockey League games with Chicago that season.
"I'm really excited about coming to Houston this season. It's a great organization and I'm looking forward to being an Aero," said Cloutier.
The Mont-Laurier, Quebec native spent his first five years as a pro in the Detroit Red Wings organization, mainly with Adirondack (AHL). In the 1997-98 season, he was a late season addition to the Detroit Vipers (IHL) and helped the team advance to the Turner Cup Finals with 7-5-12 in 21 playoff games. The veteran has played 492 AHL games and qualifies as an exempt player under AHL roster regulations. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
