RECENTLY...The Aeros closed out the regular season by taking three of four over the weekend in Erie
TODAY...RHP ADAM MILLER takes the mound as the Aeros open the Eastern League Southern Division playoffs against the Altoona Curve.
ROUND TWO... The Aeros and Altoona went head-to head in last year's divisional series, which was won by the Aeros three games to two on their way to winning the 2005 Eastern League Championship.
HIGH HONORS...RHP ADAM MILLER has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year for 2006. Miller has been the ace of the Southern Division leading Akron pitching staff, compiling a record of 15-6 with a 2.75 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP while striking out 157 batters and walking 43 in 153.2 innings of work this season. The right-hander has been dominant for the Aeros all season, giving up one earned run or less in 15 of his 26 appearances and striking out at least seven batters in a game 11 different times. Adam, a native of McKinney, Texas, finished the season with the league lead in wins (15), and also finished among the league leaders in shutouts (1-tied 3rd), ERA (2.75-2nd),and strikeouts (157 -3rd)
MORE HIGH HONORS... Aeros Manager TIM BOGAR has been named the Eastern League Manager of the Year for 2006. In his first season with the Aeros, Bogar has led his club to a league-best record of 79-51 (.608). The Aeros currently have a 9.0 game lead in the Southern Division standings and are poised to win the Southern Division regular season title for the fourth time in the past five seasons. Bogar was also selected by Baseball America as the "Best Manager Prospect" in the Eastern League this season.
HEAD TO HEAD... The Aeros and Altoona went an even 12-12 against each other in 2006. The home team dominated the series, with each team taking 8 of 12 at home. The two teams are meeting for the third time in four seasons in the first round of the Eastern League playoffs.
RECENT TRANSACTIONS...
-On Tuesday, September 5, the Aeros placed RHP BUBBIE BUZACHERO on the Restricted List, received C MAXIMILIANO RAMIREZ from Class A Lake County, placed INF EIDER TORRES on the Disabled List with a broken jaw, and activated INF IVAN OCHOA from the Disabled List.
OTHER ROSTER MOVES...
-On Tuesday, August 29, the Aeros activated INF EIDER TORRES from the Disabled List and sent RHP DAN DENHAM to Triple A Buffalo. The Aeros also sent OF JUAN VALDES to Class A Lake County and received RHP MATT DAVIS from Class A Lake County.
- On Monday, August 28, the Aeros received INF BRANDON PINCKNEY from Class A Kinston and placed INF IVAN OCHOA on the Disabled List with a strained right gluteus maximus muscle
AS A TEAM...The Aeros finished the regular season leading the Eastern League in batting average (.271), hits (1288), runs (679), and stolen bases (176)...On the hill, the Aeros finished second in the Eastern League in shutouts (17) and tied for second in strikeouts (1080).
LEAGUE LEADERS...RHP ADAM MILLER finished the regular season with the league lead in wins (15), third in strikeouts (157) and the second lowest ERA (2.75)...RHP JIM ED WARDEN finished with the league lead in appearances (55)... 2B EIDER TORRES finished second in stolen bases (41)...OF BRAD SNYDER finished with the league lead in runs scored (86).
