Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Fort Worth â As a 21 year old rookie last season for the Ft. Worth Brahmas, Adam Davis showed that he had the potential to be one of the top young players in the entire Central Hockey League. The Brahmas decided on Tuesday morning to invest in that potential when they signed the smooth skating blueliner to a contract for the 2002-2003 season.
The 6'1", 190 pound Davis was one of the Brahmas top defensemen during the 2001-2002 season. He was one of just three players to play in all 64 of the Brahmas regular season games. In addition to earning a reputation as a steady, smart, and consistent defensive player, Davis managed to score 4 goals and assist on 11 others. He also played well in the Brahmas CHL President's Cup playoff series loss to Memphis, registering a goal and an assist while playing at an even rating in Ft. Worth's four postseason games.
With Davis rejoining the Brahmas, it means he will stay in the Metroplex for the fourth year in a row. He played his final two seasons of junior hockey with the North Richland Hills based Texas Tornado (NAHL) in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001. He was instrumental part of the Tornado's success during that stretch, helping lead them to the NAHL Regular Season and Western Division championships in 1999-2000 and to the 2000-2001 NAHL Robertson Cup championship.
Before joining the Tornado, Davis played the 1998-1999 season with the Metro Jets junior team in Lakeland, Michigan and part of the 1997-1998 season with the Danville Wings (NAHL). He graduated from Crestwood High School in his hometown of Dearborn, Michigan in May of 1998.
Brahmas head coach Todd Lalonde is excited to have Davis back in the fold for the upcoming season.
"Adam is the kind of player that I want to build my team around. He's young, has a ton of potential, and has a great attitude. He can skate, handle the puck, and makes smart decisions night in and night out. Since he doesn't put up mind boggling offensive numbers, he doesn't get the recognition that he deserves, but that will come. He's a very impressive player that is only going to get better," stated Lalonde.
Davis expects his second season to be even better than his first.
"It's going to be like night and day for me," said Davis, "Last year was a major learning experience as I adjusted to the size and speed of the pro game. Now that I know what to expect and how to prepare, I feel that I'll be able to help the team even more. Todd is a great young coach, and we're going to have some outstanding players, it should be a fun season."
Davis becomes the second player signed by the Brahmas for the upcoming season. Left wing Chad Woollard inked a contract with the Brahmas last week.
The Brahmas will open their sixth season, and their second in the CHL, in mid October of 2002. Season ticket packages and corporate sponsorships are on sale now. For more information, please contact the Brahmas office at (817) 336-4423.
