Alexandria Aces News Release
San Angelo, Texas - August 18, 2008 - The Alexandria Aces used a ten-run sixth inning to take Game 1 against the San Angelo Colts 12-5 at Foster Field Monday. The Colts got out to an early 2-0 lead after a two-run double by Colts MVP Andres Rodriguez in the third. San Angelo dominated the Aces for much of the first five innings. The Aces only managed three hits in the first five innings, and Aces starter Chad Linder had given up two runs, while walking four. In the bottom of the fifth, the momentum changed into the Aces' favor. Tyrone Pendergrass led-off the inning with a triple to right. After John Anderson grounded out to Linder, holding Pendergrass at third, Jose Torres hit a grounder to second. Luis Guance fielded the ball and threw a perfect strike to catcher Eddie Fitzpatrick to tag out Pendergrass at the plate. The Aces took that momentum into the sixth, where they scored ten runs. The Aces stringed together nine straight hits with one out. Every Ace got a hit and scored in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Rafael Ozuna and a two-run triple by Homy Ovalles. Andre Marshall added a two-run homer in the seventh, giving the Aces a 12-3 lead. Linder finished the night going six innings and striking out four for the win. Game 2 will be Tuesday as the Aces go with Wayne Hedden (2-3, 4.15 ERA) against Logan Williamson (12-4, 4.50 ERA) of San Angelo. Game time is 7:05.
