Aces take 2-0 series lead

Harlingen, TX Saturday August 25, 2007- The Alexandria Aces got solid starting pitching and timely hitting to take Game 2 of the ULB Championship Series by the score of 5-2 in front of 1,923 at Harlingen Field.

Aces starter Frank James worked 5.1 solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out five and walking three. James (10-5) got double plays in both the first and second innings to get out of both innings. Charlie Foster came in and struke out both batters he faced in the sixth inning, with the tying runs on base. Juan Carlos Ovalles worked a scoreless seventh inning, striking out the side. Justin Dowdy worked the final 2.0 innings of scoreless relief to pick up his first two inning save of the season. Dowdy did make things a little interesting walking two and allowing a single before retiring Miguel Piguero to preserve the win and save.

Richard Paz was 2-for-2 with a tape measure solo home run in the seventh inning to give the Aces a 5-2 lead, one the would stand for good.Paz scored two runs and had a sacrifice bunt and a walk as well. Bryan Sabatella was 1-for-3 with a two run blast in the sixth inning. Sabatella also had two runs scored as well. Josh Tranum and Palmer Karr also added hits for the Aces, who managed only five on the night. Palmer Karr got the another rbi in the series, leading the team with seven in the series.

WhiteWings starter Kenneth Evoniuk (3-4) took the loss, working 6.0 innings, allowing four runs on four hits, while walking six and striking out four. Wilfredo Laureano worked 1.0inning of relief and allowed the solo home run to Richard Paz. Chris gale worked 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, not allowing a hit, and striking out two.

Miguel Peguero was 2-for-5 with a solo home run, and Luany Sanchez was 2-for-4 to lead the WhiteWings. Kevin Griffen, a former Ace, had a solo home run as well. The whiteWings out hit the Aces, but could not come up with the timely to win tonight.

The Aces take a two games to nothing lead in the best of seven championship series.
