Alaska Aces News Release

Anchorage, AK; September 14, 2010 - The Alaska Aces have inked veteran forward Scott Burt, and rookie goaltender Travis Yonkman for the upcoming 2010-2011 season, Head Coach Brent Thompson announced on Tuesday. The additions take the roster to 13 players, with more announcements expected in the near future. The Aces preseason "Purple with Purpose" games are set to take place on October 5th and 6th when Alaska hosts the Stockton Thunder in a rematch of last year's opening round playoff series. Tickets for the games go on sale to the general public at Saturday's 1st Annual Aces Sidewalk Sale. Pre-ordered tickets will be available for pickup as well. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.2237 or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.

Burt, 33, rejoins the Aces for the third straight year, after serving as team captain and Player/Assistant Coach in the prior two seasons. In 115 games in an Aces sweater, the Trail, British Columbia native has 68 points (31g, 37a) and 233 PIM. He also added eight points in 21 playoff games in 2009, helping to lead the Aces to the Kelly Cup Finals. Last season, Burt had 30 points (11g, 19a) in 50 games in an injury-plagued season. He was forced to miss the tail end of the season, as well as the playoffs. Following the season, Burt took some time to determine his playing status for 2010-2011. However, he recently made Anchorage his year-round home, and the lure of playing another year for the Aces, as well as a chance at another postseason run, proved enough to bring Burt back for another year. The upcoming season will be the 13th of his pro career for the 5'11", 185 lbs. left winger. Overall, Burt has played in 696 regular season games for six different teams, amassing 443 points (198g, 245a) and 1,245 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 124 playoff games, reaching the finals in five different seasons, and capturing two Kelly Cup Championships (2004, 2007 - Idaho). His return is good news for the Aces, as only once in his 12-year career has Burt's team missed the playoffs.

Along with the veteran, the Aces also added a talented rookie on Tuesday. Yonkman, 22, comes to Alaska for his pro debut, following a four-year junior career and one season of collegiate hockey with the University of Alberta. Yonkman was impressive in Alberta last season, posting a 20-5 overall record with a 2.64 GAA and .909 save percentage. Before that, the 6'1", 183 lbs. netminder manned the pipes for the Swift Current Broncos in the WHL from 2005-2009. While there, Yonkman posted a 70-49-10 record, highlighted by the 2007-2008 campaign. That season, the Saskatoon, Sask native finished with a 31-19-6 mark, and finished fourth in the WHL in wins. He becomes the second goaltender signed by the Aces this season, joining Alex Petizian.

The Alaska Aces are currently in preparation for their 16th professional season of hockey. The 2010-2011 regular season begins on October 15th at the Sullivan Arena. Season tickets and corporate packages are currently available. Mini-Game ticket packages start at just $111 for the season and are currently available through the Aces office.
