Aces Paz Signed By Houston Astros

Alexandria, LA; February 5, 2008- The Alexandria Aces of United League Baseball (ULB) announced today that shortstop Richard Paz had his contract purchased by the Houston Astros and will report to their Spring Training site in Kissimmee, FL. He is the fourth Aces player to be signed by a Major League organization since the team's inaugural season in 2006.

A native of Los Teques, Venezuela, Paz just completed his 14th professional season in 2007. Before joining the Aces in 2006, he played for Prink BBC Grosseto, a member of the Italian Professional Baseball League. Paz spent five seasons at the AA and AAA levels with four different major league organizations. In 460 games at the top two levels of minor league baseball, Paz hit .296 with a sterling .393 on-base percentage. His last season in affiliated baseball was 2004, which he split between AAA Charlotte and AA Birmingham in the Chicago White Sox organization. In two seasons with the Aces Paz hit .314 to go along with 124 RBI. This past season Paz led the ULB in runs scored (82) and on-base percentage (.459).
