Aces Looking For Host Families
Alexandria, LA; March 18, 2009- The Alexandria Aces of Continental Baseball League (CBL) today announced they are seeking twelve (12) host families for their players for the summer.
The Aces who begin play this summer in CBL need some help from the community. They are asking that families or individuals who have a room or two available and would like to have an Aces' baseball player stay with throughout the summer contact the club immediately.
The Alexandria Aces are part of the Continental League of Professional Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. The Continental Baseball League is preparing for its third season this summer with teams located in Alpine, Dallas, League City (Houston), TX, Texarkana, AR and Alexandria, LA. The CBL will play a 60 game schedule between May and August 2009.
"Independent" simply means that the Continental Baseball League is not affiliated with Major League Baseball. Unlike minor league teams that are affiliated, the league/franchises will be responsible for scouting, signing and paying their own players. As of the 2005 season, approximately 1 in 30 active Major League Baseball players have previously played independent professional baseball.
Through our National Pastime, The Continental Baseball League will provide affordable family entertainment to the citizens of Alexandria and the surrounding area while serving as a loyal community partner to this area.
The Aces just completed their 3rd season, since returning in 2006. In those three years the Aces claimed the League championship in back-to-back seasons (2006 & 2007), while also playing in their 3rd straight championship series in 2008.
The CBL acquires their players in similar methods to any Major League team: free agency and trades. The league has established a working relationship with all Major League teams in order to target and select players released from Major League Baseball organizations. This will allow CBL players additional opportunities to showcase their skills to major league scouts in a very high level of independent professional competition. Along with professional players, the CBL will research players from the top collegiate levels that are borderline professional baseball draftees who have shown the skill to play at a higher level. Since the game of baseball has become a global game, the CBL will also delve into the international player search for the best available players around the world. The league will also acquire players via open tryout camps at various locations.
