Aces Hold Alex The Ace Pumpkin Patch

October 22, 2007 - United League Baseball (ULB) - Alexandria Aces News Release

Alexandria, LA; October 22, 2007 - The Alexandria Aces and Mac's Fresh Market have once again joined forces with The Food Bank of Central Louisiana to host the 2nd Annual "Mac's Fresh Market Alex the Ace Pumpkin Patch", presented by Smoothie King and Dagwood's Sandwich Shoppe.

The event is a food drive that offers the public a chance to donate nonperishable food items to needy families and an opportunity to meet Alex the Ace and receive a pumpkin for the holiday season. This year's drive will be held Saturday, October 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the old Sally's Grocery parking lot across from Mac's Fresh Market on Jackson Street in Alexandria.

"Families and their children receive a free pumpkin when they bring four canned goods or nonperishable food items to the event," said Chet Carey, general manager of the Aces. "It's a fun event and for a very worthy cause as all proceeds go to the Food Bank of Central Louisiana for their busy holiday season. Last year we raised over 275 lbs. of food. With the help of the community, we hope to double that number this year."

Aces mascot Alex the Ace will be on-hand to make sure you receive "the pick of the patch". The Alexandria Fire and Police Departments will also be present with fire engines and police cars to greet the children. Representatives of the Aces and the Food Bank will be on hand to collect the donated food and help Alex the Ace pass out pumpkins. Cash donations will also be accepted.

The Aces would like to thank Harold Quebedeaux Produce in Mansura, LA and Chandler's Grocery in Alexandria for donating the pumpkins for the event.

The Food Bank of Central Louisiana is a non-profit organization whose mission is to alleviate hunger in Central Louisiana. The Food Bank distributes food and grocery products to needy families through a network of approved charitable agencies in the following eleven parishes: Allen, Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, Rapides, Sabine, Vernon and Winn.
