Aces drop game one
Amarillo, Texas - August 21, 2008 - Amarillo Dillas starter Micah Posey pitched eight strong innings to take Game 1 of the United League Championship against the Alexandria Aces Thursday at Potter County Memorial Stadium. In Posey's eight innings, he allowed just two runs on five hits. The left-hander struck out five and walked one. The Aces started the championship series quickly when Luis Guance hit a home run in the first inning. The solo shot put the Aces on top 1-0. The Dillas tied the game in the bottom of the second on three straight singles. Aces starter Ramon Portillo got the first two batters to ground out. Stephen Douglas hit an infield single, Justin Wenger singled to right, and Josh Ashton drove home Douglas with a single to center to tie the game 1-1. Amarillo took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Jonathan Reynoso hit the first Dillas home run of the post-season with a solo shot that just cleared the wall in left to give Amarillo a 2-1 lead. Just like the Dillas in the second, the Aces tied the game in the sixth with three straight singles with two outs. Luis Guance hit an infield single to shortstop, Rafael Ozuna singled down the line in right, and Selwyn Langaigne drove home Guance with a single to right to tie the game 2-2. The Dillas broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth. Andrew Wong led off the inning with a double to left. After Douglas struck out and Wenger grounded out to Portillo, Ashton delivered another RBI single to drive home Wong. The Dillas added an insurance run with Reynoso singling home Wong to give Amarillo a 4-2 lead. With the Aces trailing 5-2 entering the ninth, Alexandria brought the go-ahead run to the plate. Ozuna led off the inning with a walk against the Dillas' closer Ralph Roberts. After Langaigne popped out to short, Andre Marshall singled to center to bring up the tying run. Pinch hitter Brian Nichols grounded into a fielder's choice to put runners at first and third. Jose Umbria kept the Aces alive with an RBI single to score Ozuna and bring Homy Ovalles to the plate as the go-ahead run. Ovalles then grounded out to third to end the game. The Aces will try to even the series Friday as Chad Linder will take the mound in Game 2 for Alexandria. Game time is 7:05.
