Central Illinois Flying Aces News Release
Bloomington, Ill. "" The Flying Aces defeated the Green Bay Gamblers, 6-3. The victory was a true team effort with ten different Aces players recording at least one point. The Aces were perfect on the penalty kill, killing off all eight of the Gamblers chances.
Green Bay struck first thanks to Paul Maust who corralled a bouncing puck in the crease while shorthanded to make it 1 to 0 at 12:05 in the first.
The Aces held Green Bay scoreless during the second period, including during a five on three penalty kill where Brad Marek (Big Rapids, Mich.) valiantly stayed on his feet despite taking a slap shot to the ankle.
Jamie Armstrong (Warwick, RI) got the Aces on the board at 16:51 in the third. He kept the puck in at the blue line after a failed Green Bay clear and rocketed a shot past the goaltender from the point.
At 18:10 in the second, Ryan Siedem (Madison, NJ) set up Cal Kiefiuk (Macomb, Mich.) for a slap shot at the right circle to give the Aces the lead 2 to 1. Sebastian Dirven (Cornwall, ON) also assisted on the goal.
Seventeen seconds later, Payton Matsui (Lakeville, Minn.) found the loose puck in front of the net and roofed it past the Green Bay goaltender to make it 3 to 1. Jack MacNab (Indianapolis, Ind.) assisted on the goal.
Carson Kosobud (Moorhead, Minn.) passed the puck from the point to Marek who wrapped it past the goaltender at 2:34 in the third to give the Aces a three-goal lead. Tate Singleton (West Lebanon, NH) also assisted on the goal.
At 8:11 in the third, Maust got his second of the night for Green Bay when he shot the puck past the goaltender through the five-hole.
Sam Huff scored top-shelf over the goaltender's right shoulder at 11:45 in the third to reduce the Aces lead to one.
At 12:04 in the third, Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) shot the puck on net and Singleton threw himself through the air to slide the puck past the netminder to make it 5 to 3.
Marek iced the game with the empty net goal with one second left on the clock.
Mitchell Gibson (Phoenixville, PA) recorded 37 saves as he helped backstop the Aces to the victory.
The Flying Aces next play on Friday, October 12 at home at 7:07 p.m in a rematch with the Gamblers. The following night, Sat. Oct 13, they travel to Madison to take on the Capitols.
