Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-The Reno Aces pounded out 16 runs and 18 hits-both franchise records-on the way to their third-straight victory, a 16-5 win over the Portland Beavers Saturday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.
Reno scored 12 times over the first three innings, including a seven-run second frame, to take a lead that was never seriously threatened. The win marks the first time the Aces have won three-straight this season, and clinches Reno's first series win of 2009.
Every Aces starter picked up at least one hit, with six Reno batters finishing with a multi-hit effort. Alex Romero went 3-for-5 with four runs driven in, and Josh Whitesell recorded a 2-for-5 day at the plate with 4 RBIs, including his third home run of the season. Trent Oeltjen drove in three for Reno and hit his third triple in as many days.
Aces starter Billy Buckner went four innings, scattering five runs-three earned-on five hits over four innings. He punched out a season-best six batters and at the plate went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one driven in. Three Reno relievers combined to allow no runs on just three hits over the game's final five innings. Josh Ellis (3-1) earned the victory for Reno after working two scoreless frames.
The Aces and Beavers will wrap-up the series and the homestand on Sunday afternoon at Aces Ballpark. LHP Travis Blackley (0-3, 8.62 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Portland will send LHP Wade LeBlanc (0-2, 6.05 ERA) to the hill. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT Fox 11 Family Sunday. Tomorrow's game will feature the Spitball Gang and the conclusion of Youth Baseball Weekend at Aces Ballpark.
