AC St. Louis News Release

AC St. Louis, playing in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, will play the Des Moines Menace in the first round of the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The match will be played on June 15 in Des Moines, Iowa with the winner advancing to the second round of the tournament. The Des Moines Menace is a member of the PDL, Premier Development League.

"This is a good draw for us," stated player-assistant coach Steve Ralston. "We have a chance to get another game in, which is always important for a new team like ours. This is a very important tournament and it is the longest running competition in U.S. Soccer, so we are thrilled to be a part of it."

The U.S. Open Cup is open to all affiliated professional and amateur soccer teams in the United States. The competition is similar to that of England's FA Cup, and several other European domestic cup competitions. First-round pairings were determined by dividing the clubs geographically into eight groups of four, with match-ups within each group determined by random draw. First round winners will advance to the second round on June 22. The eight second round winners will then be drawn against eight teams from Major League Soccer for the third round of the tournament, which will be played on June 29. The quarterfinals are set for July 6-7, the semifinals on August 31-September 1, and the final is slated for October 5.

AC St. Louis is currently on a bye week and will return to action on June 12 in Puerto Rico. AC St. Louis' next home match is scheduled for June 26 match against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Tickets are still available and can be obtained by calling 1-888-STL-GOAL, or by visiting www.ac-stlouis.com.
