ABA playoffs continue into semi-final round
March 16, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The ABA professional basketball league's Championship Playoff series moves into the semi-final round this week with games between four excellent teams - the 2nd ranked Arkansas Rimrockers, the 3rd ranked Mississippi Stingers, the 5th ranked Maryland Nighthawks and the upset-minded 13th ranked Bellevue Blackhawks. Earlier this week, the 1st ranked Utah Snowbears suddenly withdrew from the playoffs allowing the winner of the Maryland-Bellevue game to move into the Championship Finals.
According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "If we had a choice, most certainly we would have liked to see Utah in a semi-final, but like Mario Vazquez withdrawal from American Idol, sometimes you don't have a choice. But the fact is that both Maryland and Bellevue have been playing tremendous basketball. All four teams have a great chance to win." The winners of the semi-finals will play the Championship Game for the PitBull Energy Drink Trophy at the home of the highest remaining ranked team - either Arkansas or Mississippi.
