ABA heads to Tampa Bay in 2005

August 17, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA Co-founder, today confirmed that the professional basketball league has accepted its 7th expansion team for 2005 - Tampa Bay, Florida.

According to Newman, "We are extremely pleased to be returning to Tampa Bay next season. We have always felt it could be a great ABA market and with our new business model and divisional set-up, we have no doubt it will be very successful. The ownership group, headed by Atlanta attorney Tracy Carr and Tampa Bay business people, is exceptional - very knowledgable, very experienced. They'll do well."

Carr added, "With teams in Jacksonville, Miami, Pensacola, the Florida competition alone should be very exciting - sort of like Florida State, Florida and Miami in college basketball. We have our work cut out for us because the ABA is very competitive. We'll make the Tampa Bay area proud."
