ABA heads to Reading, Pennsylvania in 2007
November 2, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that a team in Reading, Pennsylvania will be added next season. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "Reading is a great sports city and fits beautifully into our divisional plans for 2007. We are very fortunate to have a group with extraordinary experience in both business and basketball - with a heritage of success in everything they've done."
The organization will be led by Kay Magee, who received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Mathmatics from Villanova University prior to becoming a high school teacher and college Mathematics professor. She served as Director of Men's Basketball Operations at Philadelphia University and is President of Herb Magee Basketball LLC in addition to being Camp and Clinic Director for all Herb Magee Basketball Camps. Ms. Magee produced "Nothing But Net" and "Nothing but Drills" basketball shooting instructional DVDs and is the daughter of Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Nominee Herb Magee.
She will be ably assisted by her father, Herb Magee, one of basketball's true "Guardians of the Game." Coach Magee is extraordinary in both his legacy and longevity, having spent a lifetime shaping the game and its players and coaches in a manner that is legendary to all in the sport. Coach Magee reached his 800th Career Win on December 8, 2005 as basketball coach at Philadelphia University, putting him in the Elite Eight of basketball coaches in all NCAA divisions. He has 813 wins going into this season and with 16 more this season, will be the winningest Division II coach in history - and when he passes 828 wins, will be second only to the great Hall of Fame coach Bobby Knight.
"Basketball is in our blood," stated Kay Magee. "My dad was a playground legend during the times of Earl Monroe, Wali Jones and Walt Hazzard; he was a star and was drafted by the Boston Celtics, but he chose to make his mark as a coach instead. His career is amazing and he help embody the love of basketball in me. We are so proud and pleased to be the owners of an ABA team and will dedicate ourselves to being one of the best organizations in this great league. Our family knows nothing other than total commitment to excellence - and we will make the ABA and Reading proud. We are ready to go."
