January 18, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release
Indianapolis, IN -- The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced the assistant coaches for the ABA East All Star Team that will meet in the All Star Game at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL on Saturday, February 11th. They are Rod Baker, head coach of the Rochester RazorSharks and Keith Williams, head coach of the Maryland Nighthawks.
According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "Both Rod and Keith have done outstanding jobs with their teams and are certainly worth of the recognition. They, along with head coach Greg Graham, will have a very competitive team."
Baker coached at the professional and collegiate level for 28 years including the University of California-Irvine, Tufts University and the Harlem Globetrotters and served as an assistant head coach or assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati, Rutgers University, Seton Hall University, St. Joseph's University, Columbia University, Brown University and College of Holy Cross. He was also an assistant coach for the 1993 and 1995 USA Men's Teams at the World University Games and both teams went undefeated and captured gold medals.
Williams background prior to accepting the position of head coach of the Maryland Nighthawks was in the field of training including many professional athletes as well as college and high school athletes - with a conditioning and shooting being the primary focus. He played basketball for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where he was a Black College All-American before turning pro. He was in the New Jersey Nets Veterans camp. Williams has managed basketball clinics and camps, created basketball training videos, is a professional speaker - and now is a successful professional coach with a winning team.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
