
ABA Battle lines drawn; LA defeats Inglewood

Los Angeles, CA. The newest version of the ABA professional basketball league showcased itself in LA at the ABA Summer Pro League and fans in attendance witnessed the first chapter of a new rivalry as the LA Aftershock defeated the Inglewood Cobras 114-111.
Nick Sheppard and Will Burr got the Aftershock off to a fast start with a 10-0 run to start the game and it appeared that the Cobras never recovered. Sheppard had 11 first quarter points to offset 13 by Mike Jones as LA led 28-25 after one period.
Maurice Spillers and Sheppard tag teamed for 18 second quarter points and the Aftershock extended its lead to 13 points. Terryl Woolery came off the bench for Inglewood to keep them close, hitting two three pointers along the way to 8 points in the period. The Aftershock led 56-44 at the half.
The second half featured James Profit coming out of the locker room to score 12 points to tighten the game while Diamond Johnson added 8 and Robert Banks 5 as Inglewood cut the lead to 72-70. Sheppard got hot again and went on a 7 point tear and Will Burr hit two three pointers to give LA an 81-76 third quarter lead.
The fourth quarter was intense as Mike Jones beat up the nets for 10 points. Profit added 8 to cut the deficit to 81-80. Dion Bailey and Corey Williams teamed with Spillers for 17 points to keep LA ahead but it was a desperation three pointer by Burr with one second on the shot clock from 35 feet that kept LA ahead. Burr finished the final period with three shots from beyond the arc and 13 points. Jones, Profit and Woolery had chances to tie the game, but LA held on for the win.
Sheppard led all scorers with 33 while Burr added 22. Spillers was masterful in breaking the Cobra press and scored 18 points while Dion Bailey finished with 14. Jones led Inglewood with 25 while Profit and Johnson added 19 and 17 respectively. LA's next game was against Orange County while Inglewood took on the ABA Pros over the weekend.
