Published on May 10, 2005 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the first ABA Southern California Summer Pro League will be held August 5 - 20 in Westchester, California - home of the 2004-2005 boy's Los Angeles city and California state Division 1 champions. Newman stated, "We are very pleased to have an ABA Summer Basketball League. There are so many great basketball players eager to have professional careers. The ABA will have roster spots next season for over 800 players. The summer league should give many players a chance to show their skills and to improve their skills and become part of the ABA. Hopefully, the ABA Summer League in Los Angeles will become as much of a tradition as the NBA's summer league. We are excited - especially as it will give many people a chance to see the ABA game - faster paced, higher scoring and very exciting."
The ABA Summer League in Southern California is hosted by Nine Sports Entertainment LLC and kicks off the first annual summer showcase for some of basketball's most exciting teams and showmen. This is the beginning of a tradition. The ABASPL is the league's Southern California summer stage for both ABA teams, basketball stars and free agents to perform and sharpen their skills. It's fanXciting! It's an ABA Summer Xperience! The games will be so powerful that some players we're anticipating to play in the ABA may be called up to the NBA before the season starts! There will be 3 games each day of exciting competition for 16 days. Along with the summer games, "The ABA Xperience" will be held during the ABA Summer Pro League game days. "The ABA Xperience" will open at 11am and include activities such as 3-pt shooting, 3-on-3 games, Slam Dunk Exhibition, Fan Contest: Let's Play H O R S E, Entertainment(tm), ABA and ABA Team Merchandise, Community Service Opportunities, Prizes and Much More!
ABA league and team promotions will exhibit at "The ABA Xperience" along with other exciting businesses. Participating ABA team tryouts will be held leading up to the ABASPL. "We're planning an ABA basketball Xperience that's sure to be continued in years to come. With the new ABA League requirements and standards, we are pleased to host these games to showcase players and our organization," said Sean Higgins, President/CEO of Nine Sports Entertainment LLC. "We are building community relationships for California ABA pro ball and for our ABA Inglewood team. We're creating summer jobs for students and residents that can be an invaluable experience," continued Higgins. "Ticket prices are as low as $5 a day for groups and $12 a day for a family of four. The fans will get an early experience of what's to come in November 2005 when the regular ABA season begins." Higgins will coach the ABA Inglewood team. "This is an excellent opportunity for local players who want to show their stuff. Keeping with our team's theme of community spirit, we want to be sure that we bring a great experience to the community and great opportunities. The competition will be fierce. You don't want to miss the competition this summer. Tom Chichester, ABA VP/Director of Officials adds, "I think that once basketball fans around the country get a view of our ABA game, they will be thrilled with the way some of the particular rules of the ABA enhance the game, creating a very exciting game to watch..especially when our marquee 3D rule goes into effect."
Advance ticket reservations will start June 11th. Teams and free agents should contact Nine Sports Entertainment LLC to reserve their space today. There's an early registration discount for registering by May 20th.
