ABA All-Star contest champions challenge NBA counterparts
February 21, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release
Rockville, MD. After proving their skills to be better than all other ABA players, Maryland Nighthawks' guard Randy "White Chocolate" Gill and Ray "Hops" Cunningham want to take on the best that the NBA has to offer. They have officially challenged NBA 3-point champion Dirk Nowitzki and slam dunk contest winner Nate Robinson to a charity fundraising showdown.
Two weeks ago, Gill won the 3-point shooting contest and Cunningham captured the slam dunk title at the ABA All-Star Weekend in Sunrise, FL. Gill scored an amazing 36 points in the final round of the competition. Cunningham, who has emerged as a top threat for the Nighthawks this season, scored a perfect 50 points on each of his two dunks.
"I have supreme confidence that Randy Gill and Ray Cunningham can hit the 3-point shot and slam home a dunk as good as, or better than, anyone playing basketball in the world," said Nighthawks owner Tom Doyle. Doyle would set up the charity competition, should Nowitzki and Robinson accept the challenge. Nowitzki and Robinson won their respective contests at the NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston TX this past weekend.
The Nighthawks play this Sunday Feb 26 at 6pm at Montgomery College, Rockville Campus when they take on the Baltimore Pearls. Tickets are available online at Ticketweb.com or through the MCC Box Office. Admission for children (12 and under) is $5. Adult (13 and under) tickets are $10. Senior Citizens (55 and over) can purchase $7 tickets at the box office on game days. For more information, visit www.marylandnighthawks.com or www.abalive.com.
