ABA adds second Georgia team for upcoming season

July 13, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that a second Georgia team has been added to the league for the upcoming season. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "This team will be one of the most exciting in the league as the ownership (to be announced) will be both basketball and high-profile entertainment. More details will follow early next week."

The General Manager of the team will be former 18 year NBA veteran Wayne "Tree" Rollins who starred for several ABA teams including the Atlanta Hawks. "It is good to be getting back to Georgia," said "Tree." "With the ABA's expansion in Florida combined with the great operation of the ABA Atlanta Vision, we'll have a terrific division. Our goal will be to field a competitive ABA team - and provide the best musical entertainment package in the league. The fans of Albany will be thrilled with the fast-paced basketball and top entertainment at affordable prices."

The team is now negotiating with the Albany Civic Center, "and we hope to have it finalized shortly," added Rollins. We'll be announcing our coach, tryout camps and other plans - including our unique ownership group next week. Keep your eye on the ABA web site. And one more thing, we have already named the team - we'll be the SOUTHERN GEORGIA 36'ERS."
