Everett Silvertips News Release

Byron Froese netted his eighth game winning goal of the season and Tyler Maxwell extended his point streak to eight games as the Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 Friday evening in Kent. The win, coupled with Spokane's 2-1 win at Tri-City, brought the Silvertips within three points of the first place Americans with ten games remaining. Everett improved to 39-19-3-1 with their third consecutive victory, while Seattle dropped their 17th consecutive game to fall to 14-35-7-4.

Seattle jumped in front at 10:36 of the first period when Chance Lund converted a backhand on a two-on-one following a feed from Brenden Silvester.

The Thunderbirds doubled their lead at 3:06 of the second when Prab Rai beat Kent Simpson while on the power play from the right circle.

The Silvertips got on the scoreboard at 11:09 of the second while on the power play as Tyler Maxwell one-timed a Byron Froese feed past Calvin Pickard for his 31st goal of the year.

The Silvertips found the equalizer just over two minutes later when Daniel Iwanski beat Pickard down low off a rebound from a Clayton Cumiskey shot at 13:24.

Tied at two entering the third period, the ‘Tips converted once again on the power play as Maxwell's shot from the left circle was deflected by Froese past Pickard for a 3-2 lead at 6:31.

With the Silvertips on the power play and under a minute remaining in the game, the T-Birds attempted to pull Pickard before Shane Harper picked off Jeremy Schappert's pass as Pickard headed to the bench. Harper flung the puck into an open net for a power play goal at 19:19 to complete the scoring. Harper's 37th goal of the season brought him within one goal of the all-time single season club record, set by John Lammers in 2005-06 with 38 goals.

With the win, Everett won the road portion of the I-5 series for the first time in club history, finishing 3-2 at the ShoWare Center. The Silvertips are 6-3 overall against the Thunderbirds with one game remaining: Friday, March 12th in Everett.

The Silvertips return to the ice on Wednesday evening when they travel to Spokane for a 7:05 matchup against the Chiefs. The next homestand begins on Friday evening, when Everett hosts Tri-City in a key divisional battle on February 26th, followed by a Saturday, December 27th date against the Prince George Cougars.
