Sweets Add Three to 2015 Roster

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Walla Walla Sweets roster expanded again on Wednesday as the team announced the signing of Alex Jondal, Jarred Zill, and Cody Sporrer.

Jondal, a native of Spokane, Washington is a 6-foot, 4-inch, 225-pound catcher. The freshman at University of Hawaii at Manoa is a graduate of Ferris High School where he was a top seven Washington prospect, and the top rated catcher by a regional baseball publication. Jondal was also a three-time selection for All-Greater Spoken League his freshman through junior seasons.

"Alex is a big, physical catcher who is rapidly maturing," said Sweets manager Frank Mutz. "He has good defensive skills behind the plate, and we look forward to watching him develop offensively during his first year of college."

Jarred Zill, a 6-foot 2-inch, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, is a freshman at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. During his senior season, Zill went 1-2 with a 2.00 ERA and helped his team to a first-place finish in the South Coast League. As a junior he was 4-1 with a 1.41 ERA striking out 23 batters in 34 2/3 innings.

"Jarred is solid mechanically and does a good job commanding three pitches," stated Mutz. "I am confident he'll excel in whatever role he finds himself in, both in the spring and the summer with us."

Sporrer, a freshman infielder at UC Riverside is a native of Fullerton, California and a graduate of Chino Hills High School. During his senior season at Chino Hills, the 6-foot, 160-pound infielder, appeared in 29 games hitting .413 with 10 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 31 RBI, and recorded a .486 on-base percentage. Sporrer helped his team win the 2014 Sierra League Championship and was name Sierra League Most Valuable Player.

"Cody was an early signee for UC Riverside and highly recruited throughout high school," added Mutz. "He has a chance to become a very exciting player defensively and at the plate."
