November 6, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release
WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Walla Walla Sweets front office is busy preparing for the start of the 2015 West Coast League season. With the announcement of new field manager Frank Mutz, the team turned their attention to the roster for the upcoming season. Today the Sweets announced the signing of DeSales High School pitcher, and Walla Walla native, Cameron Richman and Bishop Alemany outfielder Alex McKenna.
Richman, a 6-foot, 175-pound pitcher, is a high school senior at DeSales High School in Walla Walla, Washington, and a University of Portland commit. Last season as a junior, Richman was 10-1 with a 0.98 ERA for the Irish, helping his team to their 19th state championship title. He also hit .386 with 22 RBI, 10 doubles, and three triples. During the summer of 2014, Richman played for the 18U Spokane Dodgers, and was selected to participate in the Arizona Fall Classic this fall. In 2013, as a sophomore, Richman was 12-0 with a 0.37 ERA, including a complete-game two-hitter in the 2013 2B State Championship.
"It's always fun when we're able to sign local players who have developed in their baseball careers over the five years the Sweets have been in existence," said Sweets president Zachary Fraser. "Cameron is a talented pitcher and we look forward to seeing what he is able to do this summer in the West Coast League."
McKenna, a 6-foot 1-inch, 190-pound outfielder, is a high school senior at Bishop Alemany High School and a resident of Canyon Country, California. McKenna will graduate in 2015 and is committed to play for the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs. As a junior at Bishop Alemany, McKenna hit .315 with three doubles, three triples, and three home runs. He was selected for USA Baseballs 17U National Team Development Program Stripes Team and was selected for the 2015 Tournament of Stars, the premiere event for the 18U National Team Trials Selection.
"Alex has proven himself to be one of the top outfielders in the California Mission League," said Sweets manager Frank Mutz. "He will be headed to a quality program at Cal Poly after high school, and I look forward to working with Alex as he continues his baseball development."
The Walla Walla Sweets will open the 2015 season of WCL baseball on June 5, 2015. Season tickets and 12-game vouchers are on sale now.
