
Sparks To Present First Southern California High School Classic April 26 At Lynwood High School

LOS ANGELES - Some of the top prep players in the Southland will participate in the first Southern California High School All-Star Basketball Classic on Saturday, April 26 at Lynwood High School presented by the Los Angeles Sparks, the team announced. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under or those showing a student ID. The event is being produced by Game Time Productions and sponsored by Adidas and Broadway Federal Bank.
The event runs from 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and will showcase All-CIF Southern Section honorees as well as league all-stars from more than six regions in six games - three girls and three boys. The players were selected by an all-star committee comprised of high school basketball coaches from throughout Southern California. Before the games, fans will get a preview of the Sparks and No. 1 draft pick Candace Parker in a special open practice.
The high school all-star teams will represent the following regions: Long Beach, Los Angeles, Orange County, the South Bay, Inland Empire and San Fernando Valley/San Gabriel Valley/Ventura County.
For the boys, 6-6 forward Eric Wise of Martin Luther King heads a very talented Inland Empire All-Star squad. Wise averaged 20.3 points and 9.2 rebounds this season.
The Long Beach All-Star team features Long Beach State-bound Casper Ware (Gahr) and Mayfair guard Charles Odum.
On the girls' side, Antonye Nyingifa of Redondo Union, a UCLA signee and Women's Basketball Coaches Association honorable mention All-American, leads a South Bay squad that also includes Megan Richardson of Mira Costa, who led her team to the regional I-A crown and runner-up in Division I-A.
The Long Beach squad, coached by Polytechnic coach Carl Buggs and Lynwood coach Ellis Barfield, have six NCAA Division I signees, including April Cook (Polytechnic, Washington State), Courtney Clements (Millikan, Arizona), Sherrie Session (Valley Christian, Rhode Island) and Heather Pilcher (Lynwood, Boise State).
Reiko Thomas (Narbonne, Arizona), Gabrielle Clark (Narbonne, San Diego State), Christine LeNoir (Narbonne, Washington State) and Lauren Edwards of Brentwood head the L.A. squad.
Jasmine Holiday of Ayala, Aishah Sutherland of Perris and Aarica West of Vista Murrieta lead a strong Inland Empire team. Kimberly Brandon of Chatsworth, Kristin McCarthy of Bishop Amat and Laura Easterling of Ventura represent an excellent SFV/SGV/Ventura All-Star unit. Orange County is well-represented with Amanda Sims of Troy, Jhaika McDonald and Brittany Pernnell of Magnolia and Lauren Oosdyke of Santa Margarita.
