Houston Stealth News Release
In addition to Tina Thompson's signing with the Stealth, Houston played a game Saturday evening versus the Grand Rapids Blizzard. The Stealth (with only 7 players in uniform) defeated Grand Rapids 89-83 to make Saturday a successful day for Houston on two fronts.
Houston trailed 34-30 with 4:45 left in the first half; but, the team scored 12 unanswered points in two and a half minutes to lead 42-34. The Stealth took a 47-36 lead into the locker room.
With the Stealth leading 74-58 with 7:23 remaining in the game, the Blizzard (6-5) went on a 9-0 run to get back into the game. Houston's lead was cut to 2 points three separate times; but, the Stealth never allowed the Blizzard to tie the game.
Guard La'Neishea Caufield led Houston in scoring with 23 points (6 of 13 from the field and 9 for 11 from the charity stripe). Three other Stealth players scored in double figures: center Michelle Snow scored 22 points and added a game-high 13 rebounds; guard Tamicha Jackson scored 22; and forward Octavia Blue scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
Houston's record improves to 4-8. The Stealth finish this three-game in 4-day stint Sunday afternoon versus the second-place Chicago Blaze. The Blaze (8-5) have won 7 straight games to set a NWBL record. Chicago's roster includes WNBA players Dominique Canty (Detroit Shock); LaTonya Johnson (San Antonio Silver Stars); and Camille Cooper (New York Liberty).
Houston returns home tomorrow to play Grand Rapids at 8 o'clock. Monday's game versus the Blizzard will be Tina Thompson's debut in a Houston Stealth uniform; so, make plans to attend the game and invite your friends, too!
