
Stealth blacks out Power

Houston Stealth News Release
The Houston Stealth overpowered the Birmingham Power Sunday afternoon at Autry Court by a score of 77 70. Houston's Kelley Gibson was the game's high scorer with 21 points, eclipsing teammate Alicia Thompson's 20 points in the last minute of the game. Thompson also added 9 rebounds. Kym Hope and Tamicha Jackson contributed 11 points apiece.
The Power was led in scoring and rebounding by Lori Nero with 19 points and 9 rebounds, followed by Jaynetta Saunders (14) and Alisa Burras (11). The Stealth outrebounded the Power 42 34.
The Stealth out-hustled the Power in all categories points in the paint (32 - 8), points off turnovers (21 10), 2nd chance points (9 4), and shut them out in fast break points (8 0). They out-shot the Power 49% to 39%.
The Stealth's 2 newly signed players, Tiffani Johnson and Tai Dillard, had solid games with Tiffani scoring 4 and pulling down 3 rebounds in 13 minutes of play, and Tai contributing 6 points and 4 rebounds in 19 minutes.
The Stealth's next game is Friday, February 27th, at Autry Court versus the Dallas Fury. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
With the win, the Stealth's record is now 7- 4 while the Power's record falls to 4-6
The Stealth, the two-time defending National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) Champion, plays its home games at Rice University's Autry Court. Individual game tickets are on sale on the Internet at http://www.nwbl.com/stealth/tickets or at the Rice ticket office an hour before the game. Tickets are $15 for reserved, priority seating, $12 for reserved seating, $8 for adult general admission and $5 for child general admission.
The NWBL is a six-team league that features 27 active WNBA players. The NWBL is in its fourth season with six teams expanding the United States: the Birmingham Power (Birmingham, AL), the Chicago Blaze (Chicago, IL), the Colorado Chill (Ft. Collins, CO), the Dallas Fury (Dallas, TX), the Houston Stealth (Houston, TX), and the Springfield Spirit (Springfield, MA). The season runs through March 23. A four-team, single-elimination playoff begins on April 1, 2004.
