7.16.14 Thunder Take on Teaching Roles
July 16, 2014 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Portland Thunder News Release
For one day, the Portland Thunder got to watch others play football instead of strapping on the pads themselves.
The Portland Thunder spent Tuesday afternoon practicing with kids from the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde out at Spirit Mountain Casino's football field. The team taught the kids positional techniques, guided them through positional drills, and scrimmaged with the kids, playing 7 on 7.
"It was a really fun event," said Thunder Community Relations Coordinator LaShawnta Horton. "Spirit Mountain helped set things up really well, the kids were great, and the guys seemed to really enjoy themselves."
All participating children received a giveaway bag from the Thunder and awards were handed out to the MVP, best hands, offensive lineman, etc. of the day by the staff.
The Thunder resume regular practices at the Moda Center on Wednesday, July 16 in preparation for their chance to clinch a playoff spot in their inaugural season against the Arizona Rattlers at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The game will be streamed online on ESPN3 and carried on 750 AM The Game.
