Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(SAN BERNARDINO, CA) - The last thing a team struggling to score wants to do is fall behind early, but that's what happened to the Lancaster JetHawks Tuesday night. Inland Empire scored two runs in the first inning and struck six times before Lancaster found the scoreboard as the 66ers beat the JetHawks 11-4. Lancaster has now dropped six consecutive games.

Starter Jeff Icenogle, who had pitched well in his first two starts, struggled early. The first three 66ers batters knocked hits, leading to two runs. Inland Empire added a home run in the third inning and scored twice more off Icenogle in the fourth to drive him out the game.

Cruising 6-0 through four innings, 66ers starter Steven Johnson finally cracked in the fifth. Marcos Cabral hit his first home run of the season to get things started for Lancaster. Then with two outs, Nick Moresi's double was followed by RBI singles from Chris Jackson and J.B. Shuck to bring the JetHawks to within three.

Lancaster had chances to close the gap further. Jon Gaston walked to open the sixth inning, but a pop fly and double-play ended that threat. Cabral and Craig Corrado each singled to start the seventh inning, but a strikeout and another double-play thwarted that rally. Inland Empire then scored five runs of their own in the seventh inning to pull away.

The road trip ends Wednesday night in San Bernardino. Chris Hicks (1-1) will start for Lancaster against Inland Empire's Chris Withrow (1-0). The first pitch will be at 7:05 PM.

The JetHawks Clubhouse Show will be on radio and online at 5 PM on Magic 1340 and JetHawks.com. Manager Wes Clements will chat about the season thus far and Houston Astros Special Adviser Matt Galante will talk about the Astros organization and share stories about Major League players he's worked with, such as Nolan Ryan, Jeff Bagwell, and Craig Biggio. Fans can also play JetHawks Trivia to win tickets to a future JetHawks game.
