66ers Open Training Camp

November 7, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Tulsa 66ers News Release

TULSA, Okla., Nov. 7, 2010 - The Tulsa 66ers officially tipped off the 2010-11 preseason with their opening practice of training camp Sunday afternoon inside the Tulsa Convention Center.

The group of 16 participated in a three hour workout led by 66ers head coach Nate Tibbetts and assistant Dale Osbourne.

"I thought our energy and effort was extremely good," Tibbetts said. "I thought our attention to detail was also good today. It is tough when you go three-plus hours, guys can start to fade a little bit. Overall, I was pleased with the energy and the effort."

Defense was the overriding theme of day one.

"Anytime you guard people you have a chance," Tibbetts said. "I think that is the one thing they hang their hat on in Oklahoma City and it is one of the things we take pride in. It is something we are going to continue to preach every single day. We are going to drill it, work on it and expect these guys to compete defensively."

Tulsa will cut its roster from 16 to 12 players by this Wednesday, Nov. 10 and eventually down to 10 by Nov. 16.

"Hopefully, the guys aren't putting a lot of pressure on themselves," Tibbetts said. "We just want to see them compete and give second effort. Most of the guys competing for those last spots are energy and hustle guys."

Tulsa will continue training camp on Monday with its first installment of two-a-days. First practice is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by a 6 p.m. evening session.
