CHANTILLY, VA (April 30, 2003) - United for D.C, in conjunction with D.C. United, today announced plans to host the 2nd Annual Kicks for Kids Spring Reception. The event, which includes a "Get Into the Game" presentation, will be held at the Capital Children's Museum (3rd Street, N.E., Washington, D.C.) from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4th. The Kicks for Kids program, now in its seventh year, provides at-risk and other disadvantaged children from the Washington, D.C. community the opportunity to attend D.C. United matches free-of-charge and to interact with the team's players and coaches at a number of off-the-field events as well.

"United for D.C. is pleased to be able to improve upon an already great program that D.C. United implemented," said United for D.C. Executive Director and United Director of Community and Fan Relations Catherine Marquette. "By adding 'Get Into the Game' events and by holding an (All Pro Team) essay contest later this year, United for D.C. will be able to execute its mission of using the sport of soccer to teach life skills to area youth."

Children from Kicks for Kids beneficiaries, including DC SCORES, Ninos Unidos, Pediatric AIDS, Arlington Housing Corporation and the Capital Area Food Bank, will join Kicks for Kids corporate benefactors and members of D.C. United's team and technical staff for the luncheon followed by an educational tour of the museum. Scheduled to appear are: Marco Etcheverry, David Stokes, Bryan Namoff and Assistant Coach, John Trask. 2003 corporate benefactors include: adidas, AOL, Brotman Winter Fried, Cavalier Telephone, Capital Children's Museum, The Case Foundation, The Colburn Family Foundation, Cox Farms, Diamond Engineering, FGM Incorporated, Hyundai, Jimmy Lynn, Jones, Day, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Microsoft, R & R Catering, Screaming Eagles and Westfields Business Owners Association.

"Get Into the Game" events offer the youth from Kicks for Kids beneficiaries a reward for setting and achieving personal goals. For this first of four events, United for D.C. established the goal for all participants to pledge and practice a substance-free life. To support this message, the reception will include a short presentation from City Year's DECYDE (Dramatic Empowerment: City Year Drug Education) team, a substance abuse prevention program for elementary, middle and high school students within the DC public school system.
