2016 Weekly Draftee Update

Major League Lacrosse will be back in South Florida on April 23rd when the Florida Launch take on the Ohio Machine at FAU Stadium. The Launch have been busy this offseason by adding 8 future MLL players. The NCAA season is well underway and this is the place you'll find every stat, game recap, and award these draftees have been racking up!

The Launch selected Nikko Pontrello's younger brother in the third round of the MLL Draft, but it looks like Steve is blazing his own path to the professional ranks. UNC's Steve Pontrello (M) had a monster game with 6 goals as he lead the Heels to a 17-16 OT win over Duke. Pontrello and the #11 Heels are back in Chapel Hill to face #20 Virginia on Sunday.

Marquette's first ever MLL draftee, Liam Byrnes (M), had 3 ground balls and forced 2 turnovers in an 11-3 romping of Villanova. The big win was enough for Byrnes and company to finally crack the NCAA's top 20 rankings. The newly crowned #17 Golden Eagles will continue Big East play against St. John's on Saturday.

The no. 3 overall selection in the draft, Matt Landis (D) of Notre Dame, has been on a roll helping his team reach the elusive #1 ranking this week. He collected 4 ground balls in a huge 17-7 win over #9 Syracuse in ACC play. The Irish will look to stay on top against #13 Duke and the Atlanta Blaze's no.1 pick Myles Jones on Sunday.

Second round pick Henry West (M) scored a crucial goal and collected a ground ball in Maryland's 8-7 win over Big Ten foe Michigan. The Terps will keep conference play rolling Sunday against Penn State.

Bryant University's Gunnar Waldt (GK) stood firm in goal for the Bulldogs with two big performances with a week's time against Robert Morris and Brown. Waldt had 11 saves in a close 13-12 win over Robert Morris and 17 saves in an 11-10 OT upset win over #2 Brown. The Bulldogs get back into conference play with a home fixture on Saturday against Wagner.

Other notable draftee performances came from Ohio State's Robby Haus (D) with 2 ground balls in a decisive 6-5 loss to #14 Penn State, Harvard's Devin Dwyer (A) collected 3 ground balls in a 10-9 loss to #7 Albany, and Bucknell's Alex Spring grabbed 7 ground balls in a tight 8-7 win over Army West Point.
