
2016 Storm Season Begins with a Win

Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm opened up the 2016 season with an away game in Billings, Montana.
The Sioux Falls Storm continued their momentum from last year's championship winning season into tonight's season opener against the Billings Wolves with a dominant 51-28 win. The Storm had an aggressive start when Lorenzo Brown threw one of his three touch passes to Mike Tatum in the first quarter. It wasn't long after that, the defense contributed to the score when they blocked a field goal and fell on it in the end zone making it a 14-0 Storm lead.
Brown added another touchdown using his legs to make it a whopping 20-0 game after a failed PAT attempt, in the second quarter. The Wolves were finally able to get on the board after Darakata Britt threw a seven yard touchdown pass to Julian Laing, making it a 20-7 ball game. Not long after, the Storm was able to redeem themselves after another ten-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Korey Williams, extending the Storms lead to 27-7 at the half.
The Storm kept the momentum rolling into the second half as Williams brought it back to the end zone on 42 yard kick return, attacking the Wolves with a 34-7 lead. There was no looking back after Angelo Pease had a two yard scamper past the goal line for another score making it a 41-7 game at the end of the third quarter.
In the early minutes of the fourth quarter, the Wolves attempted a late comeback as Britt threw a touchdown pass to Willie Downs. That comeback was soon shattered as Brown chucked another touchdown to Tatum, extending the routing 48-14. The Wolves answered yet again with a Julian Laing three-yard run, cutting their deficit to 27 points. The Storm came back with a 41-yard field goal by Justin Syrovatka bringing the score to 51-21. As the final seconds ticked, the Wolves were able to sneak into the end zone with a Britt 5 yard run. Bringing the final score to a 51-28, Sioux Falls Storm victory.
Mike Tatum finished the game with 79 receiving yards on five catches and two touchdowns. Storm quarterback, Lorenzo Brown, threw three touchdowns while completing nine of 15 passes, had one rushing touchdown and had one interception. Korey Williams finished the game with two receptions for 24 yards and one touchdown.
The Storm improves to 1-0 on the season while the Wolves fall to 0-1. The Storm returns to action Friday, February 26th when the Storm will face the Cedar Rapids Titans where the kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
